| Interim cricket committee Secretary Nishantha Ranatunge suddenly turns millionaire! –complaint to Bribery Commissioner |

 (Lanka-e-News, Dec.01, 2010, 8.45AM) Nishantha Ranatunge, the Sri Lanka (SL) interim Committee Secretary has turned a millionaire all of a sudden. A group of cricket officials have on the 29th made a complaint to the Bribery Commissioner to probe into how this sudden wealth was acquired by this new rich millionaire.
In the complaint made to the Director General Ms. Lakshmi Jayawickrema of the Commission it had been indicated that Ranatunge who after becoming the secretary one and half years ago to date has become the owner of two jeeps each costing over Rs. 20 million each, while he is also in the process of importing another super jeep for which an advance of Rs. 30 million has been paid by him.
Moreover, the house he is residing at Rajagiriya is worth Rs. 50 million, and within the short spell of time he has embarked on several business ventures including land sales, the petition elaborates. |

Within this one and half years as a Secretary he had gone on 37 foreign tours spending cricket administration funds. He had also given permission to use the cricket Committee emblem on the results sheets of horse racing. Besides, he had without duly calling for tenders has made arrangements to sell the international cricket encounter rights to an Indian Co. for five years, the complaint further states.
Ranatunge is also wrongfully using the powers belonging to the chief Executive officer of the cricket committee, the petition further adds. |

| Meanwhile, the Kalutara district UNP M P, Lawyer Ajith C S Perera last Saturday made a proposal in Parliament to dissolve the SL cricket administration board and appoint a new Board. The Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage replied that there is a trial proceeding in the courts in this regard, and therefore he is not in a position to furnish an answer. |
