| I abhor the media :SL cricket security boss boorishly slams the door on the ICC too ! |

(Lanka-e-News, 16,Feb.2011, 11.05PM) The Sri Lanka (SL) cricket Association Security advisor retired Major General Lorenz Fernando who always tries to throw his weight about and parade as a great ‘Lokka’ before the media, by trying to show his pranks with a foreign media chief at the R Premadasa playground yesterday (15) at the practice match between the SL team and the West indies incurred the displeasure of all present and soiled the name of the country internationally, it is reported.
When Brian Mergetroad who has been appointed as the media manager for three SL team matches in the international tournament sought to enter through gate 8 of the Premadasa playground meant for the media, Lorenz Fernando has through his security soldiers obstructed his entry. The media chief was then compelled to tell the security soldiers who he was and had proved his identity.
Following the information passed by the security soldiers to the Major General, the latter had come along with another 8 security personnel and berated the foreign media manager and his group in the most insolent and vicious language, while closing the gate 8 and blocking the vehicle of theirs from entering. |

This Foreign Media Manager is held in high esteem by the international cricket Council. He was obviously embarrassed and humiliated by this crude and brutish conduct of the Major general.While apologizing to SL officials for any inconvenience caused by this unseemly incident, the media Manager has decided to lodge a complaint with the ICC.
This ruffian of a major General Fernando was appointed as a Security advisor for the cricket team after the attack launched on the latter in Lahore in 2009, on a high salary by a high ranking officer of the SL cricket interim Committee.
After taking up the appointment as the security advisor he had on many occasions conducted himself most obnoxiously towards the media, about which the media had also severally reported.
On a earlier occasion, he objected to a foreign media photographer ‘s entry because he was wearing slippers thereby precipitating a huge commotion.
On another occasion by his sending the security soldiers to safeguard the ground during the tea break in a match, he had to face the criticisms mounted by the Umpires against him.
This stupid major general after yesterday’s untowardly incident at the Premadasa playground has been heard telling another ‘ I bitterly detest the media. They must be made to go walking’
Even the top ranking officers who were in the tight security zones during the LTTE war and at its tail end are trying to mingle with society after the war and are becoming humane and understanding. But this brute of a Major general who was confined to Colombo in fear without proving his military process in the field when the war was raging, is now performing a ruffian and rowdy role intimidating and insulting the ordinary people, the media personnel express. |

The biggest clownish act of this tough and rough, stormy but empty Major general who has no sense of proportions was demonstrated when he deployed 800 security soldiers to cover the practice match between Kenya and Netherlands where the number of spectators perhaps were lesser than the security contingent deployed by him at the ground.
The SL cricket officials complain that by this Major general deploying such disproportionately large number of security officers, the cricket Board is compelled to pay exorbitant sums of money to the Security Co. providing the security. |
