| Fonseka’s maiden rally opens big closes quick – opportunists desert him at final stage |

 (Lanka-e-News -18.Oct.2012, 11.55PM) The first steps of Fonseka to launch an opposition alliance and to bring Anoma Fonseka to the fore as her maiden effort while putting in front a united Bhikkhu Front by holding a rally at the Colombo Hyde park this evening (18) unfortunately could not reach the target it aimed . With the heavy downpour the disappointment was manifold. Prior to the rains there was a crowd of a little over thousand for the rally , which was of course far below what was expected.
Karu Jayasooriya who has by now become well known as a turncoat and a notorious political opportunist , after making much din along with UNP MPs Range Bandara , Asoka Abeysinghe, Palitha Thevaraperuma about attending the rally finally let down his associates wholesale by deciding not to attend it at the last moment. When Jayasooriya met Malwatte Mahanayake Thero yesterday , the latter advised him against attending the rally ,which was not reported by the media. The Ven. Maduluwawe Thero of FUTA and Ven . Dambara Amila Thero whose photos appeared in the posters of the rally also did not participate in it. Representatives of recognized Trade unions, Teachers associations and civil Organizations also were not present. Tiran Alles the only MP of the national list of Fonseka’s party being absent was most conspicuous. It was Alles who was sent to secretly negotiate with the President to get Fonseka out of jail.
In short , not one national political party leader took part in this rally. Nobody representing the main races at national level attended. Of course some disabled soldiers were present nursing great hopes. The Lanka deepa newspaper had to withdraw the names of the individuals published in today’s advertisement on the rally , because they could not get a proper confirmation from them regarding their participation , according to sources associated with the newspaper.
Though this rally was organized to demand the abolition of the Executive Presidency , not a single speaker spoke a word against the Executive Presidency. On the contrary ,all what was heard was vicious and abusive speeches directed against the opposition and the UNP. The only speaker who criticized the Executive President Mahinda Rajapakse was Attorney at law Gunaratne Wanninayake. He attended this rally not as a convener of the people’s march Organization but separately as an individual.

It was the view of those desirous of a Fonseka – opposition amalgamation that the friendliness , co operation and understanding that was growing between Fonseka and the opposition main party , the UNP had been devastated by organizing such a conspiratorial , clandestine and unsuccessful rally. They said with concern that this was a personal sinister agenda of the Kili Maharajas that was sought to be fulfilled , while crooked NGO black coated shark Shiral Lakthileke organized it in order to lead Fonseka into the hellhole he and his clan had fallen . It was this same faceless, shameless, policy less Shiral Lakthileke who took Karu Jayasoriya up the garden path who until that time enjoyed an unsoiled reputation within the UNP . Now Karu too is in the same boat as Shiral waiting for the inevitable end – capsizing, after having lost not only their faces and headquarters but even their hindquarters. This being an incurable infectious ailment afflicting Shiral , he is now trying to infect Fonseka too with this contagion , the people who were at the meeting told among themselves before departing. |
