Puritans in SLRC fear adolescence
(LeN-Nov.16, 6.45 pm) The Director of the Rupavahini Educational programme Ms. Anoma Wattaladeniya has been sent on compulsory leave with effect from 15th November (yesterday).

The reason behind this action was supposed to be Ms.Wattaladeniya granting permission to telecast a programme called "Udavena Vasnthaya"(the dawning of Spring) which was quite popular among parents adolescents and the educated.

This programme was conducted under the co-operation and guidance of the Health Education section
and funded by Un Child and Population fund.The script for the programme was written by veteran journalist Percy Jayamanna and co-ordinated by award winning science writer Thusitha Malalasekera.
This educational talks how presented as a questions, issues and advice feature grappled with questions like a girl attaining puberty, the adolescence of a boy, how to prevent sexually transmitted deceases, how to lead a healthy life etc etc.

The health education section has paid a sum of Rs.900,000/= for the said programme.
The programme in question was telecast on last 13th at 9.30pm. The approval for the said programme
was given by all the top officials of the SLRC and the script has received the approval of the health education section and from a panel of medical specialists.

According to some of the SLRC showing of the anatomy of a young with genitals was tantamount to
showing a indecent picture and this was brought to the notice of the President. Subsequent to that Ms. Wattaladeniya has been sent on compulsory leave. They have called for explanation from the works director of the said section.

About 200 employees of the SLRC have questioned the chairman and the Director General about sending Ms Wattaladeniya on Compulsory leave and they have said it was minister’s decision.
They have questioned the above two officials how an Assistant news editor who was remanded and subsequently found quilty of taking money promising foreign employment was reemployed without any disciplinary action and the two officials have remained mum.

Nearly 500 employees have commenced signing a petition to be sent to the President inquiring how some could commit such fraudulent acts using the President's name and get away.
