Abductions spread to Wellawaya
(LeN-2007April 10, 7.30pm) Naguleshwaran Selvaraja a businessman in Wellawaya and one of his employees have been abducted on the 6th of this month by a group that had arrived in a white colour van.

The group had arrived at around 8 in the night and said that they needed to record a statement from the employee and that they were from the CID. They had even presented an ID and stated that they were taking the employee to the Wellawaya police for questioning. The businessman was also ordered to get into the van.

The businessman's son had been aware of this but hadn't got worked up since they were taken to the police. But since the clock struck 11 and his father didn't still arrive home he has called the Wallawaya police to find out what had happened. The police had said that they hadn't brought anyone like that to police.

Speaking to LeN OIC of the Wellawaya police D. Ilangakoon said he has received a complaint regarding the incident and that it is not the CID that has carried out the arrest.

During the recent time 78 Tamil businessmen were abducted from Colombo and according to the Civil Monitoring Mission 12 of them have been murdered. It added that 15 of them have been released after paying thumping ransoms and 51 of them are still missing.
