Do not silence dissent! 350 lawyers to ask Gota
(Lanka-e-News, 30-Sep-2008, 11.00PM) Sri Lanka Bar Association decided to meet the Defense Secretary and the Chief Justice to make them aware of the dangerous situation the lawyers are facing.

Following the attack at human rights lawyer J.C. Weliamuna, the Bar Association held an urgent meeting yesterday at the office in Hulftsdorp and came to this decision yesterday (29).

A petition was signed by over 350 lawyers and asked the Inspector General of Police to inform what steps would b taken within a week’s time.

Considering the attack as one targeted a person but the legal profession, the petition appeals from civil society and the pressure groups to join hands with Bar Association to act against the attempts to silence the dissent and the criticism.
