Nachchikuda about to decline amidst severe attacks
(Lanka-e-News, October 30, 2008, 9.10 AM) Media Center for National Security (MCNS) announced that Nachchikuda LTTE bastion was about to decline before the fierce attacks of the security forces.

MCNS said that Special Force has launched a multiple attack at a powerful bastion of the LTTE in west coast of Nachchikuda since yesterday morning. It further said that this was the most crucial attack since the fighting commenced last August in the area.

The light infantry was provided assistance with the continuous artillery attacks. LTTE retaliatory attacks were repulsed and crucial points were captured as the battle spread from north of Nachchikuda to south, military sources said. Army was attacking the LTTE with full force with the hope of capturing remaining positions.

Defense analysts say that LTTE's defense in the west coast would be paralyzed if Nachchikuda would be captured by the forces in operation along A-32 Mannar – Punarin road. It is the LTTE’s main supply route after the closure of the A-9 road.

Military sources said that troops stationed in Kunchikulm and Manniyankulam were advancing attacks at the identified targets of the LTTE while the forward defense line of the LTTE was broken near Jayapuram causing heavy casualties to the enemy within the past 24 hours.

Nachchikuda is considered the main challenge to the security forces after capturing Vedithalthivu Sea Tiger base. Therefore the defense analysts foresee fierce battles in this zone.
