Contempt of court case against Ranil to be heard
(Lanka-e-News, October 31, 2008, 9.00 AM) Colombo district judge Sisira Rathnayaka rejected the argument of Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe's counsels that the court had no legal powers to hear a case and decided to proceed with the case of contempt of court against the Opposition Leader who is accused of submitting wrong affidavits to the court.

The district judge ordered to show cause by both parties on December 17, the date fixed for hearing.

Former UNP MP Anura Bastian had submitted a petition to the district court seeking nullifying the pact between the United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickramasinghe and Sri Lanka Freedom Party People's Wing (SLFP-PW) leader Mangala Samaraweera. He argued that the UNP leader had no powers to come to such agreement without prior approval of the party and asked the courts to nullify the pact.

The counsels of Mr. Bastian have pointed out that the affidavit that was submitted by the Leader of Opposition was inaccurate and it amounted to contempt of court.

President's Counsels Faiz Mustafa, S. A. Parthalingam, Daya Pelpola, Rowland Perera and V.K. Choksy appeared for Mr. Wickramasinghe whilst President’s Counsel Ikram Mohammed, Upul Fernando and Thissa Wijesuriya appeared for petitioner Anura Bastian.

President's Counsel Romesh de Silva, Hiran de Alwis and Sudath Caldera appeared for the second petitioner.

Yet another attempt for the American Dream to be implemented in this country and the region through their green card holding citizens, just like how they perform in India by salvaging BJP Manamohan Singh's govt. after the nuclear deal and also Robert Blakes presence in Tamil Nadu at a time when Karunnidhi withdraws the resigntion threat that would have led for the collapse of the BJP govt. if he did not. Why need enemies when you have friends like these. Wake up Sri Lanka!
