(Lanka-e-News, November 29, 2008, 11.00 AM) Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) that is now in a dialogue with the United National Party (UNP) for a broad dialogue has set forth a proposal to support the government as well.
SLMC General Secretary M.D. Hasan Ali said to Lanka-e-News that although the government was slinging mud at his party identifying it as a part of the UNP, the SLMC actually decided to support the UNP since it admitted SLMC's conditions. He further said that they would be ready to support the government if it would admit the party conditions.
SLMC conditions include a Muslim governing unit in the Eastern Province, a new district for Ampara district enclosing the three Tamil divisions, inclusion of a separate Muslim team into future talks to solve the ethnic problem and suspension of resettlement in the north and east are the four conditions put forward by the SLMC. |
