| Attorney General talks politics |

(Lanka-e-News, December 30, 2008, 9.15 PM) New Attorney General Mohan Peiris says that creating crisis in a time the war that pushed the country into a precipice is coming to the end will be a draw back. He further said that similar crises in Pakistan hindered progress.
The new Attorney General made these observations after he met Dr. Aluthweva Soratha Thero, the chief incumbent of the Kririvehera temple to get invoked blessings.

He said that the judiciary and the legislature should go hand in hand and the Supreme Court is for resolving the problems in law. Pointing out that people go to Supreme Court even when a teacher punishes a student, the Attorney General said that all institutes such as universities, schools, courts, hospitals etc. are maintained with the tax income of the government. He asked how much the people would have to pay if the items such as school text books and uniforms that are distributed free by the government were needed to be purchased.

The Attorney General said that petrol is used by a well to do sector and some elements do not shout to get the price of the poor man’s kerosene reduced. He said that Sri Lanka could not act like UK since it is a poor country.
New Attorney General Mohan Peiris says that Sri Lanka is the world’s only country that feeds and provides medicine to the terrorists that are fighting against the government.
He also said that the crisis between the Supreme Court and the government is a minor matter that will get cleared soon. |
