(Lanka-e-News, 29.March.2009, 9.20 PM) Our London reporter says that the UK-based pro-LTTE British Tamil Forum has launched an international campaign to boycott tea, food items, clothing and etc. exported from Sri Lanka.
Launching the campaign, the British Tamil Forum has said that among around 300,000 Sri Lankans that have migrated to Sri Lanka, 30,000 fly Sri Lankan airline per annum and the organization urges them to avoid it to prevent going around 12 million US dollars to the hand of the Sri Lanka government.
However, our London reporter says that the European Tamils are used to the taste of Sri Lankan food and the prices of the clothes and other items are also low. Therefore, the campaign would not gather momentum, he said.
An airline businessman based in London said that the organizers of the boycott should consider the boycott twice since it is too imaginary. He told that he was aware of the LTTE leaders in the beginning of the movement and it was engaged in a business of selling toddy to the Sri Lanka Army soldiers then. Businesses were not banned and twenty youths were deployed then in that toddy business, he said.
Our London reporter further said that a Sinhala organization in London has also organizing a counter campaign in the name 'Support Sri Lanka.'
