| JVP office in Veyangoda attacked; a JVP activist killed |

 (Lanka-e-News, April 06, 2009, 2.35 PM) One JVP activist was killed and another was injured as an unidentified group of persons opened fire at JVP supporters that were decorating a party office at Veyangoda. The incident took place around 2.15 AM today (06). The attackers came in a double cab vehicle and two vans. The injured person named Samarakoon Banda was admitted into Gampaha hospital.
The deceased is a JVP activist named Nandana Balage.
As the attackers threatened the JVP supporters, they opted to slip off. The attackers opened fire at the double cab vehicle of the JVP supporters. They followed the fleeing vehicle more than seven kilometers. The number of the vehicle that followed them was traced as PB 0674.
JVP media unit said that a complaint is lodged in Veyangoda police regarding the incident.
CAFÉ, an organization that is monitoring election violence said that JVP was aimed in 24 incidents in Western Province alone and the majority of the attacks were well organized. CAFÉ further said that no proper investigations are carried out regarding these incidents. |
