TNA should be banished from the parliament -Gota
(Lanka-e-News, 30.May.2009, 6.00PM) Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse says that Tamil National Alliance (TNA) must be banished from the parliament.

In an interview with a weekend newspaper, he said that everybody knew the TNA was elected to the parliament by LTTE’s rigging. He charged that the organization spoke against the constitution in the parliament as well as abroad. He emphasizes the TNA that spoke to divide the country must be expelled from the parliament at least at the next parliament.

He said that the Tamils could come to politics through political parties like Sri Lanka Freedom Party and United National Party but not through the racist parties.

Yes you are right .. so that racist party like Hela Urumaya and JVP also can be stopped.if you go on like this there will not be any party in SL. What a pity to see equally foolish trying to support this personality who has blood on his hands.I wonder who is the racist here ..

Will you say the same about the JHU and SLMC? After all these too represent one race (Muslims are considered a separate race in SL) and therefore are racist by definition.

Geez guys, where is the democracy and free speech. They were elected by people. The fact LTTE may have rigged the ballots is besides the point. It is the freaking parliament; if there are people in this country with that type of points of view, they must be heard. SLFP and UNP should have their own representatives from North and East. However, if there are those who do not agree with their ideologies, then they should be free to speak their minds be it at the parliament or any other public forum. Sinhalese and Tamils both should realize that although we speak different languages and believe in different religions, in the great scope of things we are all similar human beings with similar anatomies and red blood coursing through our veins. Regardless of whether we are born Sinhalese or Tamil we all have a father and a mother that we love, brothers and sisters we love, and children that we love. Just because someone is different from us does not mean we should demean, harm or hate them. I sure hope Gota would show more empathy. And I also hope that all the so-called leaders who continuously trumpet Buddhism would actually follow the teachings of Lord Buddha. Peace and Love.

If Not the TNA there will be another racist party that will spring up. My suggestion is let them stay but legislate against racism.. and any one who violates the law, try them for treason. Either a citizen of Sri Lanka Loves the country and if they do not, they should get out.

Gota you are right, but you are treading into dangerous territory because one might say that parties like Hela Urumaya should also be banned. Did I open a can of worms ?. Hope not.

Well of course this has been the motto of the SLFP since its inception! How come Tamil aspirations be fulfilled through a party that created all this havock by refusing to grant devolution of power in 1959 and a party that brought legislations to oust democraticlly elected opposition from the Parliment? Isn't it clear now which way this racist, extremist regime is marching out?

You did a great service to our motherland, we Srilankan salute and you deserve to be more than a government servant. But remember you are still a government and commenting on political matters in public are out of your arena. Do not let lose our respect for you by being a politician.

You're the HERO of us. Without you nothing gonnaa happened. You're absolutely right. They must be vanished.

Good one. No problem. You can do it too my hero. Ajith Kumara USA

TNA should be abolished so was LTTE because TNA is LTTE and LTTE is TNA. LTTE fought for land while their proxy TNA fought in the parliament.TNA should somehow or other be banned.

It is no doubt that TNA was a party proxy to LTTE. It is obvious that the people will teach these spineless tamil politicians a lesson at the next election. I support what Defense Secretary said and would like to propose further that we should bring in constitutional amendment to ban any party which even has a name to indicate to represent a race, religion or a cultural group in addition to the party objectives and manifesto to indicate such inclination, should not only be accepted as a recognised political party but also ineligible to contest any election in the country. They can have a sport or religious or cultural organisation but no political party and the absence of such would give a rise to the Sri Lanakanism and, in the long run, it would provide opportunity to create leaders who love the country not their small cell of people where they live. This would provide a base for a pluralistic societies like ours to not only to safe-guard our society but also to prevent errant politicians taking populace in a distructive course to meet their political objectives.

This idea of getting tamil representations through the two main parties is absolutely right. If Obama came in to politics through a racist party, the most he would have achieved would have been, may be, the Governer position of a majority African American State. Because he came through a national party, he was able to get to the very top. All these tamil, muslim and other parties should join the two main parties for politics. They can keep their identities as groups for cultural and other activities.

Is this party not representing their constituents?

gotabhaya !go ahead go ahead!go ahead!look after my motherland!

Mr.Gohotabaya you'ar extreamly correct.we appriciate about your comments.

You are really correct that T N A have nothing to do in democratic debates in parliment, because they represent only L T T E not the tamil population in srilanka.

A timely and wise decision by Gota.It is justifiable expelling these racist party who came to power through LTTE whose proxy is the TNA.Now LTTE is almost eradicated and their proxies should also be completely eliminated to let the Tamils of north elect representatives in a democratic way. This move should be taken as a top priority.
