| 'Night mail back on track to Vavuniya' says Dallus |

(Lanka-e-News 31.July.2009 10.30AM) The night mail train from Colombo to Vavuniya made its historic journey after a long lull yesterday.
The train service was earlier disrupted by LTTE on several occasions by causing damage to the rail track.
Following the crushing of the LTTE, Transport Minister,Dallus Alahepperuma on the instructions of President Mahinda Rajapaksa repaired the track up to Thandikulam.
The restoration of the track to Thandikulam made way from the Yal Devi to commemce operations.
The night mail to Vavuniya was suspended time and again due to terrorist threats in the past.
Meanwhile, Minister Alahapperuma plans to extend the night time bus service from Colombo to Vavuniya.

At present the last bus leaves Colombo at 7.30pm.It is expected that the time will be extended till 10.00 pm.
The security situation in Vavuniya has greatly improved over the past few months and people move without fear. |
