Media personnel invited for felicitation ‘cut off’ later
(Lanka-e-News, Nov.30, 2009, 8.30PM) The media personnel who covered the war were invited to the Hilton Hotel tonight (30) to felicitate them by the President. However, many of these invitees were later, this afternoon informed that their presence is unnecessary from sources at the top.

A number of State and private media personnel were invited for this function at 7.30 p.m. This felicitation ceremony was to be headed by the President.

The Officer of the National security media Headquarters who telephoned the invitees had told them he could do nothing as these were instructions from the top.
In the invitation card of the President it was noted‘ my best wishes to you for helping establish a unitary State’.

It is obscure whether this sudden cancellation of invitations is because those war reporters were close to Sarath Fonseka even before he became an Army Commander, and therefore the President intervened and stopped it, or due to the intervention of some other Army Officers .
