(Lanka-e-News, Dec.30, 2009, 8.30PM) Former MP and Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) National Organizer and member for 20 years, and former MP, R. Yogarajan and Vice President of the CWC and Deputy minister M. Satchithananthan resigned their posts from the CWC, and joined the UNP today (30) with the aim of supporting common Opposition candidate General Fonseka at the upcoming Presidential elections.
Yogarajan speaking at a Press conference today (30) in Colombo said, he hoped this decision will pave the way and bean invitation for not only the other Estate Tamil people, but also to the other estate Tamil parties with the Govt. as well as to the Tamil National alliance which is to take decision on the 4th of next month.
I have to follow my conscience and have to stand by the people whom I represent. As the Govt. is doing nothing for our people, and by our continuing with the Govt. our party was fast losing the confidence of our people. Even when we pinpointed these flaws and told the party that our people are blaming us, the party took no notice. |

Our people patiently waited and bore all the sufferings without any protest for thirty years during the 30 year period of the war. Now the minorities have realized that nothing good can come their way from this Govt. A political solution can only be successfully accomplished only through a UNP alliance Govt. Even though the All party representative Committee (APRC) met over 128 times, nobody knows what happened to its report finally. Why is the Govt. not taking action to reveal the report and implement it, if it is honest? |

When a copy of the report was requested by the members of the APRC, Tissa Vitharane, the President of the APRC showed reluctance.
EP Chief Minister Pillayan, although he is with the Govt. he is not happy. This is no secret to anyone who has knowledge of politics. There are no signs of his showing any interest for the upcoming elections, Yogarajan asserted.
M. Satchithananthan who relinquished his Deputy Minister portfolio and joined the UNP also spoke. |
