(Lanka-e-News, Feb.09, 2010, 9.55 AM) There are signs that the UNF which was formed with a number of constituent parties of the Opposition may not be able to contest as a valid registered party at the Upcoming General elections.
Under the new rules and regulations, a new political party cannot be registered until one month has elapsed from the date of an election, and during the period when the Parliament has been dissolved.
Accordingly, if the UNF constituted of the UNP, the SLMC,DNF, SLFP (M) wing is to be registered it has to wait until the 26th of February 2010.
