| UNP Tip –Ex politics elbows out Mangala’s Kuttiarachchi |

(Lanka-e-News 27,Feb,2010 9.00AM) Tissa Kuttiarachchi ,the candidate of Mangala Samaraweera who was in third position in the nomination list of the UNF for the Moneragala District has been expunged and in his place another name has been inserted when the nomination list was handed over .
Tissa Kuttiarachchi was included in the nomination list from Mangala Samaraweera’s SLFP (M) .
According to UNP sources , by 11.00 p.m. 25th night the list was ready with all candidates having signed it , and the leader of the Moneragala District Ranjith Madduma Bandara has taken over the list ..
Ranjith Madduma Bandraa has strongly protested the inclusion of Kathiarachchi to the Moneragala list , and if he is being forwarded as a candidate , Bandara had told Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe that he would not sign the nomination list. Mr. Wickremesinghe has then told Bandara , if that is the case, to forward another list of candidates under the leadership of Kuttiarachchi , UNP sources revealed.

Finally , Madduma Bandara has after all the signatures were placed, taken the nomination list with him on the 25th night . When the nomination list was being handed over on the 26th morning , Tissa Kuttiarachchi ‘ s name has been tipp -exed and another name has been interpolated.
When the Party Secretary had tried to contact Madduma Bandara to inquire as to how the name in the nomination list signed by the Secretary has been changed , Madduma Bandara’s phone has not been answering. |

Upon inquiries made from the UNP Gen. Secretary , he had said , he has a copy of the nomination list bearing his signature . He is in receipt of information that the name of Kuttiarachchi has been tipp exed and another name has been inserted along with initials purportedly of Kuttiarachchi to confirm the change. This he considers as a very serious offence , he added.
It is well to recall that because of UNP’s history of tipp ex politics ,the UNP lost its all important power and position in the Colombo Municipal Council sometime ago , whereby a number of senior and highly competent UNP politicians lost their places and sway in the Municipality .
It is also well to note that the UNP took no action against those who were responsible for that serious debacle caused within the party. |
