(Lanka-e-News, Feb.28, 2010, 10.20AM) Answering inquiries made by Lanka e news, the Army spokesman Major General Prasad Samarasinghe told, whether the General is going to be indicted for conspiracy to overthrow the Govt., or whether it is on other charges before the Military Court can only be made known after the charge sheet is finalized. Right now nothing can be stated in that regard.
Our question was whether the General was going to be indicted on charges of conspiracy against the govt. The Govt. had been repeatedly announcing that Gen. Fonseka and 29 others were taken to custody when they were at his office for conspiring against the govt.
The Army spokesman further stated that recording of statements of the witnesses is almost over. The charge sheet will be based on the evidence collected,.
Evidence has been collected from over 25 witnesses so far, he added.
