| Ranil infuriated over Madduma Bandara's tipp ex politics : says he will take legal action to get him sentenced for nine years |

(Lanka-e-News, Feb.28, 2010, 10.20AM) Tissa Kathriarachchi whose name was fraudulently removed from the UNF nomination list of the Moneragala District said, he is filing legal action in connection with the obliteration of his name from the nomination list by Tipp ex ,and interpolation of another which bore the forged signature of the UNP Secretary Tissa Attanayake in confirmation.
He is already in consultation with Lawyers and is seeking legal advice, he added.
The handing over of the Moneragala District nomination list was undertaken by former MP Ranjan Maddumabandara as its leader. Kathiarachchi stated , the UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe with whom he discussed this had explained that the removal of a name and inserting another in its place fraudulently is a serious breach of party discipline. Hence, the most strict disciplinary action at the highest level will be taken.
Kathiaracchi said,on the 26th night, Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe had summoned him and had a lengthy discussion. Mr. Wickremesinghe had already sought legal advice from a number of Lawyers as to how to include Kathriarachchi's name again in the list, while adding that this fraudulent interpolation is an offence where a sentence of 9 years in jail can be meted out to the culprit.
When Lanka e news asked Kathiarachchi as to why this change was effected, he explained that the leader of the Moneragala list of candidates Ranjith Madduma Bandara and the seven other candidates were opposed to his name being included in the list . They had therefore refused to sign the nomination list.
Ranil Wickremesinghe has then told Kathiarachchi to prepare his own list of candidates under his leadership, whereupon he prepared a list of 8 candidates. But this list was not signed. Thereafter following a discussion with the intervention of seniors of the party, they had agreed to sign the nominations which they refused earlier. This signing was done in the presence of Tissa Attanayake on the 25th night at about 8.00 p.m.

Kathiarachchi pointed out that, after his name was tipp exed, Chaminda Senaka Ratnayake’s name had been inserted in that place. Besides, forged signatures of the Gen. Secretary‘s had been made at four places in the list. As there was permission only to two people to enter the place of handing over of nominations, and as the leader of the group was going, he could not join in. But, within a few minutes of the handing over
of nominations , he came to know that his name was not there in the list.. His brother who was with another group and went in to hand over the nominations had discovered this and informed him..
Tissa Kathiarachchi contested the EP Provincial Council and polled 13080 preferential votes. Moreover he was the second highest in the preferential votes list in the whole of Moneragala District .
Upon inquiring from the UNP Gen. Secretary Tissa Attanayake , the latter stated that Kathiarachchi has only verbally complained about this so far. He has therefore been requested to present his grievance in writing. As soon as this is made, an Executive Committee meeting will be summoned and disciplinary action taken. This is a very serious offence, Attanayake further emphasized.

Unofficial sources say, if by any chance the nomination list gets rejected, this illegal action of Madduma Bandara is going to be very seriously viewed , and Ranil Wickremesinghe is in the ready to take very strong action for breach of party discipline and leadership. Ranil showing grave concern over this action, had declared that all steps would be taken to punish the culprit with the maximum sentence. The punishment for such an offence is 9 years imprisonment, he had pointed out. Ranil had told the victim Kathiarachchi that he will somehow see to it he contests the election. Madduma Bandara , even if he wins, there is no guarantee that he will not switch allegiance, Ranil has added.
