(Lanka-e-News, Feb.28, 2010, 10.20AM) UNP Moneragala District leader Ranjith Madduma Bandara told Lanka e news that, he only handed over the nomination list given to him by the Party.
He told this when Lanka e news inquired from him about the expunging of the name of Tissa Katharachchi from the Moneragala District nomination list using the tipp ex.
When Madduma Bandara was questioned, then how come the name of Katharachchi who signed the nomination paper as a candidate before the Party Gen. secretary Tissa Attanayake was tipp exed and another name interpolated; and he as the UNP District group leader handed over this altered list? .He explained that the nomination list handed over to him was contained within an envelope , and that he and his group had signed the nomination papers before a clerk at the Sri Kotha.
The following were the answers furnished by Madduma Bandara to the questions posed by the Lanka e news ….
Q: Tissa Kattiarachchi says he has made a verbal complaint to the Party Secretary about omission of his name and the UNP Gen. Secretary confirmed to Lanka e news, that such a thing has happened .Then, how can you deny that ?
A : I know nothing on that .What I handed over was the nomination list given to me by the Party. If anybody says I did a thing like that, I will file legal action.
Q: Tissa Kttiarachchi says, he is going to Courts on this issue
A: Good, if he does that. The Court will make a decision.
Q: As the UNP District leader of the group , what have you to say about the obliteration of Kattiaracchchi ‘s name ?
A:I have no necessity to remove anybody’s name. We did not even see the individual whom you are referring to signing the nomination list .

Q: UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe who had emphatically stated that this alteration is a very serious offence , and has added that you will be removed from the leadership of the UNP for Moneragala District immediately . Instructions have already been given to the Gen. Secretary to serve you with a charge sheet, reports say. What is your reply to that ?
A: Before the handing over of the nomination list, shouldn’t the UNP District leader also be communicated and inquired about it ? . Nothing of that sort occurred. If I am expelled from the District leader post, I shall take legal action . Legal action apart, if I am removed , the District UNP Committee and the office will meet and re appoint me as the District leader .
