| President taking over PM post is not appropriate –Ravi’s proposal supported by the Speaker |

(Lanka-e-News, July 04, 2010, 3.20PM) Colombo District MP Ravi Karunanayake’s private proposal in Parliament that the President taking over the portfolio of the Prime Minister too should be avoided was supported by the Speaker Chamal Rajapakse by allowing a debate on it.
The Speaker while giving permission stated, ‘avoidance of President taking over of portfolio of Premier’ should be amended to read as ‘President functioning as Prime Minister is incompatible and inappropriate’ |

When this proposal was to be taken for a debate on 11th June, the Govt. MPs raised objections to it. The Speaker suspended this proposal on that day until he had examined it and a decision is made. |
