Govt. fearing that General will escape withdraws him from the Kenya tour
(Lanka-e-News 05.July.2010 5.00AM) The SL Branch Executive Council of the Commonwealth Parliamentary MPs comprising a majority of the Govt. MPs has decided that DNF leader Gen. Sarath Fonseka, who was elected as the opposition representative to tour Kenya to attend the Commonwealth Parliamentary MPs conference to be held at Nairobi City , Kenya, shall be omitted from the tour.

This Executive Committee which held its meeting hurriedly yesterday evening at the Parliamentary assembly Hall following the passing of the budget had discussed Gen. Fonseka’s tour of Nairobi. At the discussion , Ministers Nimal Siripala De Silva and Rajitha Senaratne had stated that if Fonseka goes to Nairobi he would not return to SL. Thereafter , the Executive Committee had taken a vote on this to make their decision. This Committee which comprises a majority of the Govt. MPs had, based on the majority vote removed General’s name from the tour.

No sooner the budget voting was over than Attorney at law , Sumith Wijesinghe , the Secretary , parliamentary affairs of the Parliamentary group leader Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva had organized this urgent meeting and summoned the members of the Executive Committee.

An opposition MP speaking to Lanka e news stated ,this subsequent withdrawal of Fonseka’s name from the list of participants at the Commonwealth MPs meeting is something that had never occurred before in the Parliamentary history .

If this is to go on , the right to appoint members by the Opposition will be totally lost to the Govt. The reason for this is , in every Parliamentary Executive Committee , the Govt. MPs are in a majority .
The Parliament has no right to talk of the General’s Court case , because it is something within the purview of the Courts . Whether he will come or go is what the Court must decide.. The Parliament is a place where his Parliamentary privileges should be safeguarded. When and where is this witch hunt and vicious political vendetta targeting the General going to end ? the Opposition MP further questioned.

SF is not afraid of any allegations by the UN or any other power such as our own GOSL. He fought against the terrorists and he did it well. He did it according to the rule, unlike GOTA like politicians who got involved. He will protect his army and the soldiers the way he did at all times. R brothers are not known for that. They are opportunitists, they are rouges, they are cheaters and they are what ever SF is not. SF is not only an officer and a Gentleman, but a great Politician too. Have we seen him ever loosing his temper? Kalawadda is a suitable word for that fellow who was not grateful for the help SF had done for him. Even you and I would call such people such names. But on the other hand if you take the R brothers, how awful their vocabulary is when things are not happening the way they want. So its high time the R brothers let SF go and get ready to suffer the consequences of their own doing.

Get my word he won't utter a single word against SLA, becouse it's his army. though R brothers doubt it, If he does (If the story is true)it will badly reflect on him as a politician as well as war hero.this is trickly situation.

We have no fear of General Not Returning, cos he is gentleman and he would face anything, but i really did have a fear why the parliment nomminated him, may be they wanted to take him and fabricate a story that he escaped, who knows the R brothers could set up gansters LOL

SF is not a covered to escape and leave unlike Gota who fled the country when he coouldn't face the LTTE. Genereal is a great soldier unlike 7 Eleven employee. Gota thinks that all soldiers are the same like he and his thiefs in the army who have come back to do all the dirty work what they did before they were sidelined. General is not a covered and he will not escape.

It would be advisable to give him a way out of this mess and let him enjoy his green card in US.He may have been a good military man but not a politican and while outside SL he should not sling but at the country and at the hard fought war against the terrorists.

This is catch 22 situation. If SF goes to Kenya, he will expose the government and do a big damage. IF he is not allowed too go he will again make a big public agitation and give fuel to media to say that his human rights are violated. So MR has a difficult question. What ever the answer is MR is the looser.

He is guilty until proven innocent. Can you name any country in the world where a suspect was allowed to travel overseas?, let alone the chrages laid against Gen Fonseka. Just imagine what happens if you let him lose. Look at the statments he had made while being detained. How counter productive they are.

This is not rocket science to understand that whether SF will escape or return to Lanka after the Kenya tour. His name was put on the list by the opposition parties to make him released from clutches of the rule of law. No doubt SF is war hero but the other side of his record is not in favour of him.
