Ranil must necessarily resign –Rukman

(Lanka-e-News 05.July.2010 5.00AM) The former Assist. leader of the UNP , Rukman Senanayake said , Ranil Wickremesinghe must necessarily resign from his post of leader of the party .

He can continue to be the leader of the Opposition , but he must resign his post as party leader , he vehemently insisted.

Rukman Senanayake declared that the leadership should be handed over to Sajith Premadasa. All must accept that , today , Sajith is the most popular individual. Hence , there is also a strong request that he should be made the leader. If that is the request of the party , that request should be acceded to. Why should there be opposition to that ?, he asked.

Rukman made these above comments at an interview with the Sunday Lankadeepa.

No matter what anybody may say , the whole objective of this party re structuring is to give an opportunity to the party members to decide and choose a leader. I wish to ask , how can there be any opposition to this?. In those circumstances , it will not be important whether Sajith is elected or anybody else. But , the opportunity must be given to the party to decide who should become the leader.

It there is no change in the leadership from this re structuring , then God alone must save the party. The party will never be re built . The party will just fritter away and evaporate into thin air. This is why I insist that there should be a change in the leadership. A person like Sajith should be designated the leadership , and a new journey begun. Therefore without a change of leadership , this party has absolutely no other way out , Rukman emphasized.

Just who is this Rukman guy? No talents, no reputation, no credentials and no supporters. Ranil may be wrong. But who is this guy to pass judgements on Ranil? He has forgotten who brought him to politics..

Ranil cannot be removed by popular demand,because the UNP's undemocratic constitution does not allow it. So, let the UNP ers talk about party reforms day and night till the next election when again Ranil will lead the party and lose and lose again !

Rukman does not know where he started his political carrier. He was just a nontity when late JRJ brought him to the fold, only to rebel against JRJ and form different sects. You have no intergrity with you Rukman! You have prooved that you want easy way to the top and for that matter you are prepared even to betray for those who voted for you! Mr. Rukmal Sananayaka vs Mr.Sajith Premadasa; Sajith is too young and he has time to take the supreme authority to govern the country.His performance are very good and he has to learn about his closed associates too. It is good example for him to study Namal's actions and what will be his future. The question is the unity of the party and public acceptance to be a leader of the UNP party. Rukmal has every thing such as family roots, maturity and honesty. He does not need the power to make decisions. The decision making power will can achieve through party senior experts, all of the cream of the party is not yet dead. They are not talking because of the Runil's adamant behavior and disrespect to senior associates.When some body is subjected to world criticism as well as the local criticism, it is his responsibility to get the mistakes corrected. It is time to think about the poor not about the rich.

Ranil never form another party like Rukman. now these people are the saviors! re Sajith and Dayasiri and other 'contenders', i think every one has to go before party members and and stand for the election as proposed.party members will select by secret vote. for this hour, that is the best solution!!!!

If they are going to hold elections to select the UNP leader, why Ranil should resign. The person who gets the highest number votes will get the leadership, but until then we have to wait. It should b peoples' choice. These people have their own agendas and as a result UNP deteriorated. We really need people who love the party.
