The Reforms Committee report handed over to Ranil: UNP to introduce a new constitution
(Lanka-e-News, July 06, 2010, 9.30AM) The report of the UNP re structuring proposals was handed over to the party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Parliamentary complex yesterday (5) by the Committee Chairman Joseph Michael Perera.

The proposals recommended in the report shall be forwarded to the Executive Committee of the party and after its ratification, they will be presented for approval at the party annual convention scheduled to be held next month, Wickremesinghe explained. A new constitution is to be formulated by the Executive Committee, and that shall be forwarded at the end of the year party convention, the party leader observed.
Because there must be changes in the disciplinary code and basic rules, a new constitution has to be introduced. The new constitution incorporating the changes shall be forwarded for ratification at the end of the year convention, Wickremesinghe observed. He also thanked the Committee members who participated in the preparation of the reforms proposals, while adding that when engaged in this kind of activity, they are exposed to criticisms not praise.
