Impeachment motion to be filed against SC judge
(Lanka-e-News, July 08, 2010, 3.15PM) It is reported that the main Opposition party is making preparations to bring an impeachment motion in Parliament against Supreme Court (SC) judge Shiranee Bandaranayake.

A frontline UNP MP speaking to Lanka e news stated that the UNP these days is holding discussions regarding the conduct of some of the Judges of the Courts, and the first impeachment motion is to be against Shiranee Bandaranayake, while action is also contemplated against several judges of the SC and the appeal Court from within the Parliament.

It is learnt that Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has had the preliminary round of discussions with the MPs, Mangala Samaraweera, Dayasiri Jayasekera, Rauff Hakeem, Lakshman Kiriella,Wijedasa Rajapakse, Karu Jayasooriya and Tissa Attanayake in this connection.
The Opposition is already in the process of garnering relevant data and information. Today, the judiciary is being politicized and has descended to the level of receiving various privileges. Information in this regard are being collected, an MP who was associated in the discussions revealed to Lanka e news.

The MP also added, that a judge of the highest echelons had waxed eloquent at a discussion that if any judge wishes to meet the President, he has to make the appointment through him. Information and background details of this judge who waxed boastful is also being collected, according to Opposition sources

The situation is bound to get worse if the government decides to do away with the 17th amendment along with the proposed amendments to the Constitution as then we will be having an all-powerful dictator and not an elected president, just like the Frankenstein's monster.

This is a dangerous trend and demonstrates the paramount importance of implementing the 17th Amendment to the Constitution, particularly the appointment of the Constitutional Council. The Public Service including the Police is already politicised and now tha last bastion of protection of Citizens' rights, the Judiciary is being affected. Where is this country heading? Who will want to invest in a country where the Judiciary is not independent? Members of the Legislature irrespective of Party affiliations must look at this issue seriously

Dear judges this is supreme profession and during British regime they check your family back ground and your great grad parents conduct also because pure breed of good family will not go behind money Please do not jeopardize the country and do not allow the people take law in to their hand when they loose confidence of independence judiciary system in Sri Lanka Country leaders are majority are un educated and power hungry and do not fall in to their traps

I am very much overjoyed with the news.Mr. RW.now show Uer clours as the leader of the opposition.U are also lawyer. I am also a lawyer. Our incumbent duty is to safeguard the the judiciary for at least to the unborn generation. Some of this wreathed so called judges have been the puppets of the rulers seeking money or some other benefits notwithstanding the safeguarding the temple of justice Thank U Kautilya.
