(Lanka-e-News, July 10, 2010, 10.05AM) Jayantha Samaraweera ,a former MP , the present Chairman of the National Housing Authority and a NFF front liner said ,the letter of resignation tendered by Minister Wimal Weerawansa had not been accepted by the President Mahinda Rajapakse. As a Minister of the Cabinet, he has forwarded his resignation to relieve the Govt. of the inconveniences caused due to his fast staged by him against the UN Secretary General , Ban Ki moon.
NFF media spokesman and former MP Mohomed Muzammil speaking on the occasion had this to say:
While our leader is on a non stop fast until the Committee is withdrawn, the Govt. at Diplomatic levels is seeking to get this Committee called off. We have written to our Security Council countries to assist us. We are receiving responses for our requests. Russia has announced that they will support. We have thanked them through our offices. We are hopeful that we will get positive responses from the other countries too.
Samaraweera announced this at the special media briefing summoned this afternoon (09), in front of the UN office where Weerawansa is staging the fast. Speaking further he said, Our party leader commenced this non stop fasting because of his unlimited love for the country. Now, 30 hours have elapsed since the fasting was begun , and his life is subject to grave danger. Yet, our leader will not abandon this fast until this advisory Committee is withdrawn.
