| Govt.’s program is 'mathata thiththa'; Govt. Ministers’ policy is ‘thiththata matha’ -Two Deputy Ministers fall down drunk in Parl. complex. |

(Lanka-e-News, July 10, 2010, 10.05AM) Two Deputy Ministers of the Govt. had got drunk so much so that they had even been unable to walk. After aimlessly trying to go to the first floor of the Parliamentary complex, in the exceedingly inebriated condition, one of the Ministers has fallen down when wobbling out of the lift.
This incident has occurred on the 6th evening.
Because the budget debate is on these days, Parliament sessions extend till as late as 9.30 p.m.
The first promise in the first chapter in the Mahinda Chinthana is to create a society which respects discipline and follows a policy of 'mathata thiththa', whereby liquor and intoxication shall be banned.

Some representatives who witnessed this disgraceful episode question whether Mahinda Chinthana does not apply to those getting drunk within the Parliament where only members gather, and because it is not a public place? As always, double standards are being followed ? |
