Kolonnawa fuel Tanks empty; water instead of fuel pumped out!!
(Lanka-e-News 12.July.2010 8.00PM)The Kolonnawa fuel tanks under the control of the Lanka Oil Companies have been pumping out water instead of fuel to the Bowsers from this morning (12).

Fuel distribution begins at about 6.30 a.m. each day ,but today , till 12.00 noon , the oil Company had not been able to transport one bowser of fuel to the place of distribution.

Though 11 Bowsers were filled from morning at the Kolonnawa oil installation , it was not fuel but water which was filled into the Bowzers. . Usually by 12.00 noon ,about 75 Bowzers are filled with about 990,000 liters fuel , but today until now not a drop was distributed , the oil Company workers reveal.

Ordinarily , there is distribution of fuel to 200 stations , but because of the present situation , there is going to be a fuel crisis due to shortage of fuel .

Fuel is stored in the Kolonnawa oil installations over water . This is to avoid the fuel getting absorbed by the earth. Hence, when fuel is pumped into the Bowsers , if water gets drawn into the Bowsers , it is because the storage tanks are empty . This situation has resulted owing to the administration not having any idea or knowledge of the requirements of the consumers when they imported the oil , the workers at the oil Companies point out.

The Chairman of the oil Companies is a retired Army Officer. Under his poor administration , those appointed to responsible positions are unqualified , unsuitable and incompetent . The Operations Manager appointed by him is an individual who had been charged over a foreign exchange fraud. Lanka e news had on many occasions highlighted details of the frauds , corruption and illicit commission collections raging in the petroleum Corporation and its Companies on oil imports.
Even after the exposure of import of metal dust adulterated petrol and inferior quality oil amounting to 20,000 metric tons with full details earlier , no inquiry or disciplinary action was instituted. It is believed this deplorable state of affairs in the Corporation and the Companies had been precipitated due to this indifferent attitude of those responsible.

Because of the failure to arrange adequate storage of fuel by the Chairman’s poor administration and the high ranking officers appointed by him , the consumers are confronted by serious fuel crises on the one hand while on the other , the country’s valuable foreign exchange is being sent down the drain, sources say.

Why can't the Govt replace the Army Officer Chairman with a poor record of administration with somebody competent? Is politics playing a part here?

THAT WAS BEFORE THE VESAK. AND I AHVE TO UNDER GO A RS. ONE LAKH FIFTY THOUSAND REPAIR COST AS AGAINST THE SUBSEQUENT SERIES OF FULTS ORIGINATED WITH WATER CONTENT IN FUEL. THIS WAS EXPERIENCED BY MANY COLOMBO RIDERS. GOVERNMENT AND CONSUMER AFFAIRS AUTHORITY MUST LOOK INTO THIS AREA AND MUST ENSURE QUALITY FUEL IS PUMPED ONLY TO THE CONSUMERS
