President assures no MP from the UNP side will be taken to the Govt.
(Lanka-e-News, July 14, 2010, 12.25PM) The President has given an assurance to the UNP leadership that he would not take no more of the UNP MPs to the Govt. side.

The President has given this assurance when he met the UNP group led by its leader at Temple Trees on the 12th to discuss the amendments to the constitution.

The President gave this assurance in response to a question raised by the UNP President Gamini Jayawickrema Perera, according to news reaching Lanka e news.
When Jayawickrema Perera asked from the President whether he is truly honest about the abolition of the Executive Presidency, the President has replied, not to entertain any doubts whatsoever about it.

Even earlier we discussed with you and signed an agreement. But, finally you took away 17 of our MPs to the Govt. We are prepared to have discussions on matters which are for the benefit of the country, and we will support decisions of the Govt. which are aimed at such goals. But, on this occasion, you must not take any more of our party members, Jayawickrema Perera had insisted.
The President has responded to this by emphatically expressing clearly ‘never, never, I wont take again’

The President has already taken the trash from the UNP. The inefficient and the 'garbage mouths'. What more does he need?

The American saying "Tell it to the American Marines" is applicable here. The connotation being: The American Marines are full of brawn but very little brain and will therefore believe anything told to them. The last time they negotiated he took 17 of them. This time he might just take sufficient numbers to get the two thirds majority.

What's going to prevent the recent history being repeated. The UNP is so naive to believe the President like in an old folk tale where a fox managed to take an animal several times to see an old, sick lion. Such stupidity.

May be the President is regretting his past. Really, he needs no more as his Party has enough.

Has MR got any credibility in what he says? He lied to people and cheated people from the very first day he stepped in to Presidency. We all know that and knowing this, I dont think anybody should believe him. If anybody does, that person has to be a mongal.

My Dear Chairman UNP. I am sorry, he willnever keep up to the words. Let any UNP MPs deviate. Let them enjoy the democracy of SB style under Rajapakse brothers. Mind you every dog has it's day. Recollect what had happened to Premadasa. that's all Kautilya
