Devananda gives a ‘slap’ to Keheliya in return for the speech made by latter
(Lanka-e-News, July 18, 2010, 7.40AM) Resettlement and traditional Industries Minister Douglas Devananda said, he is in the process of legally handing over the lands in the North to their legitimate owners, in the regions where the High security zones are.

Davananda was making this statement following the announcement made by Minister Keheliya Rambukwella at a media briefing to inform the Cabinet decisions, on which occasion, he stated that even though the owners of lands in the high security zones have deeds lawfully, they will not be allocated back their lands

Douglas Devananda had made this above pronouncement to the BBC Tamil service.
He added that at the Cabinet meeting this land issue was never discussed. Besides, the President has always accepted that the rights and ownerships enjoyed by the people of the South should be enjoyed by the people of the North too. On every occasion he met the President, the latter has given this guarantee, he pointed out.

At the Media briefing on the 15th to inform the decisions made at the Cabinet meeting, Minister Rambukwella declared that for a country, high security zones are paramount. Hence, irrespective of whom the lands may belong to in the High security zones and where the Army camps are, what is more important is the country’s security. The majority of lands in the North and East belong to the people of those areas, he noted.

This is the usual practice of the government. Different ministers saying different things to confuse the people. Finally MR and family decides what will happen. All the rest is just camouflage!

When two minister can not agree on this subject what can you expect from the ordinary people ? It is well know that bogus deeds are in handy available in those areas where real owners have problem to prove their land? This is where justice has to come forward and clear this matter. What kind of future we can image in Sri Lanka
