(Lanka-e-News 18.July.2010 7.15PM) Sri Lanka's cricket bowling phenomenon Muthiah Muralitharan has announced he will be making his last appearance in test cricket today (18) when he plays the first test match commencing at Galle between Sri Lanka and India .
He holds the world record for taking the most number of wickets (792 wickets) in test cricket and nearing the 800 wicket mark. He achieved this record after playing in 132 test matches.
There is no trace of doubt that Murali is the best player SL has ever produced . This is because of his great dedication to the game and his inordinate bowling skills. Murali is also the highest wicket taker in the world in one day matches . Murali who hopes to reach the 800 wicket mark at the match commencing today , commented as follows :
Most of the goals what I aspired in the cricketing sphere I had accomplished. Therefore . I do not wish to be selfish trying to continue further in the game. There aren’t any more records for me to bag. A record means something that can be broken by another at another time. But , frankly speaking , a record holder who has accomplished a special feat wishes to have his record
unbroken , and in his name. I am no exception. Some day even my record will be surpassed by someone. Yet , I will also prefer to have my record permanently in my name .
Although I am quitting from Test cricket , I will continue in the one day games and 20-20 tournaments until the 2011 one day world cup tournament , Murali stated.
