These measures were taken because the Army authorities did not allow Gen Fonseka to attend the Health and Nutrition Ministry ; Sate administration and Foreign affairs Ministry as well as the Select Committee meetings held in Parliament on the 16th of July.
Gen. Fonseka had made a request to the Speaker of Parliament to summon the Army Commander before the Parliament privileges Committee and question as to why he (Fonseka) was obstructed from attending the last Parliamentary select Committee meeting . The General who raised this matter as an issue of Parliamentary privilege claimed that the act of the Army Commander was in breach of his Parliamentary privilege. |
