| The two accused who passed information to LTTE for Mangala’s assassination given 11 years jail sentence each |

(Lanka-e-News, July 28, 2010, 10.25PM) The Colombo High Court judge Sunil Rajapakse today (28) sentenced the two accused who confessed to conspiring and providing information to the LTTE regarding the place of residence of former Minister Mangala Samaraweera M.P. in order to assassinate the Minister, to 11 years in jail each.
The two accused are Godakumburegedera Ranaweera alias Malli and D S G Sampath Thusara.
The charges against the accused were, during the period between 31st July and 06th August 2006, conspiring to assassinate the Minister, searching for and providing information to the LTTE members Raheem, Kapilan and David, as well as knowing that information is being sought to kill Mangala Samaraweera and suppressing that from the Police. |

The two accused accepted the charges filed against them. They were each sentenced to 11 years in jail commuted to five years. |
