(Lanka-e-News -20.Jan.2016, 3.45PM) UNP national list M.P. A .R .A .Hafeez today sent his letter of resignation from his post of M.P. to the Parliamentary secretary.
Hafeez represented the SLMC in parliament under the quota allocated to the SLMC. He is the brother of SLMC leader Rauf Hakeem . Hafeez has resigned following the notification issued to him by the SLMC leader , according to SLMC secretary , Hassen Ali. The M.P. vacancy arising following the resignation is to be filled by another SLMC member.
While Arjuna Ranatunge who parades as a paragon of virtue is appointing his brothers and relatives to high positions regardless of their suitability and abilities , the move made by SLMC leader to send out his brother from the post , and thereby demonstrating he is against nepotism is a good sign.
At the same time, since late M.K D .S Gunawardena represented the UNP in parliament through the national list , his vacancy following his demise , is has to be filled by another from the UNP national list. Though there is a possibility for a defeated M.P (male or female) to be appointed , but because it is the policy of the UNP that defeated MPs shall not be appointed to fill such vacancies , and if the UNP is to adhere to that policy that possibility should be discounted by the UNP.
