President absent at Thai Pongal celebration of Tamil people who cast 80 % of their votes to him ; Chandrika and speaker are the chief guests

(Lanka-e-News-28.Jan.2016, 11.30PM)   It is an incontrovertible fact that at the last presidential elections , 80 % of the Tamil population of Sri Lanka (SL) cast their votes to make Maithripala Sirisena the president of this country. Yet the president did not participate in this year’s Thai Pongal day ,a  most significant cultural event for Tamils. Though it was announced earlier on that both president and P.M. will be attending this event in Jaffna, the president did not participate  in the event.

Only the P.M. and a former president Chandrika  Bandaranaike Kumaratunge. Surprisingly , the president did not even hold a Thai Pongal celebration in Colombo. He did not attend any such event on that day , and remained confined to his Paget road residence.

In any event , the  office of National  harmony and reconciliation , as well as the Western provincial council (WPC) jointly organized a Colombo district Thai Pongal celebration lastday (26) at Bambalapitiya Ramanathan Hindu Balika Vidyalaya .The chief guests at this function were speaker Karu Jayasooriya and a former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge.

Herein are several photographs of the Thai Pongal  celebration held with their participation.
