(Lanka-e-News- 16.Feb.2016, 8.25PM) On the first occasion when Gnanassara the notorious shameless hooligan monk was being remanded , the leader of ‘Ravana Balaya’ organization , Iththekande Sadhatissa and the leader of Sihala Ravaya alias Gava Ravaya organization Akmeemana Dayaratne conducted themselves in a most unruly manner creating unrest on court premises. These monks who were wanted in this connection surrendered to the Homagama police today ,when they were produced before the Homagama court judge Ranga Dissanayake who remanded them until the 16 th.
Galagodaathe Gnanassara was remanded that day because he demanded that he be incarcerated in lieu of the murderers of Prageeth Ekneliyagoda after intruding upon the court premises , thereby committing contempt of court , as well as on charges of threatening Sandya Ekneliyagoda within court premises. The two monks Sadathissa and Dayaratne were remanded today because they demanded that they be remanded instead of Gnanassara and for creating mayhem in front of the court.
It is well to recall that when a student Divya was raped and murdered in Jaffna , more than 130 protestors were arrested for demonstrating before the court , and remanded. Whereas in front of the Homagama court too though a large group created mayhem just a handful – about ten were arrested and remanded .It is therefore being widely questioned whether the police are applying double standards : One for the people of the north and another for the people of the south.
The photographs herein reveal clearly the hooligan and disgraceful conduct of the robed monks . Can these so called religious leaders stoop to this level ? Haven’t they desecrated the saffron robes they are wearing ? Won’t even the sacred robes curse them?
Let us hope at least the secular courts will reform them via these punishments
