The bill to appoint this committee was tabled in parliament recently by the prime minister (P.M.) , and it was debated .
Various amendments were proposed in regard to this bill by the ‘coconut robbers group’ who call themselves as the common opposition (alias common devastation ) , the TNA , the JVP and all other parties, and what was adopted today was the bill incorporating all the amendments. The leader of the house Lakshman Kiriella yesterday tabled the bill with the amendments.
The Board tasked with the formulation of the constitution shall be functioning via the parliament , and the constitution that is presented by it , after its ratification by the cabinet , has to be passed in parliament with a two third majority followed by a national referendum.
It is the aspiration of the rainbow revolution that triumphed on 8 th January , in order to confirm the success of Democracy , the issues of the minority races shall be resolved . With this in view ,if a new constitution can be passed , and a new set of reforms put in place via a new constitution to achieve those goals, the country will never ever back track , political analysts opine
