The reconciliation effort should begin from among people of the South and not North

-President in Jaffna when giving back 700 acres land to the people of the North

(Lanka-e-News -14.March.2016, 10.00PM)   About 700 acres of land in the high security zone of Jaffna were released , and distributed among the owners under the aegis  of president Maithripala Sirisena on the 12 th.

These lands were situated in Kankesanthurai and Telepalai .533 families were identified as owners of this land , and two schools of the government too were in the land that was released. 

The president who participated in the event said , this land which is being distributed does not belong to others , and what belongs to the recipients. During the recent past , large plots of lands were distributed , and in the next few months more are to be handed back  to the owners , he added.

The president said , a very small group in the South is criticizing the distribution of lands to the people of the North , because they do not know how much the people of the North are suffering . He therefore requested the critics to visit the North and personally see the sufferings in the North . While many speak about reconciliation among all the races , they go only to the North to achieve that, he bemoaned. 

The president therefore pinpointed  they do that because  have not duly understood the situation . Truly they should begin the reconciliation process from among the people of the  South, the president emphasized.  

The president also urged everyone to extend their support towards reconciliation so that all races can live in a harmonious environment , without mounting criticisms.  

The Government has begun a project to build 65000 houses for the people of the North who fell victims due to the war . When this construction is under way, the government will consult with the people of the North  and their views will also be accomodated , the president further revealed  in Jaffna.  

The extent of land that was deprived of the residents of Jaffna is 7600 acres , based on the registers forwarded to the government by the TNA . 

With the current distribution of 700 acres of land by the president , the total extent of land distributed to the residents of the North so far is about 3000 acres. This was revealed at this function in Jaffna.
