(Lanka-e-News -18.March.2016, 11.45PM) Dhammika Ranatunge (of Ranatunge family) the chairman of Ports Authority was issued notice on the 17th to appear in court on the 24th based on charges of abusing and threatening Gunaratnam , a journalist of SL Rupavahini Corporation near the entrance door to High court 7 on the 16 th. This order was issued by Colombo chief magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya. The incident took place on the 16 th when Dhammika of the Ranatunge family was in court to follow the proceedings of the case in which his crooked brother Nishantha Ranatunge (in remand custody then ) is indicted on charges of money laundering activities involving colossal sums of public funds.
The Keselwatte police via a B report to court today had stated that Dhammika has committed an offence under section 486 of the Penal code .
When Dhammika , the chairman of Ports Authority and his group were in court in connection with Nishantha Ranatunge ‘s grave criminal case , Gunaratnam the court reporter of National Rupavahini had video taped them , whereupon Dhammika had berated the reporter (wal booruwa , umbawa maranawa ) furiously and threatened him with death. The journalists of other media Institutions who were in the vicinity noticing this had arrived with their cameras and published a report on the incident.
A journalist who was also on the scene revealed , at that time , Dhammika too with his mobile phone took photographs or videtaped them .
Following this incident , Gunaratnam had lodged a complaint with the Keselwatte police , and other journalists who were also on the scene had signed as witnesses. The complaint No. is CB 234/201.
Dhammika Ranatunge who is paid a salary out of public funds threatening the journalists , in order to shield his crooked brother Nishantha Ranatunge who has defrauded the very public funds on which Dhammika is subsisting (leave alone his clandestine income) is a most grave offence. It is a most crucial question ,how come individuals like Dhammika best known for the worst nefarious activities who ought to be holding positions only in a Hitler’s government secure this high post under a government of good governance ?
It is a well and widely known fact that the pro good governance masses are bitterly disappointed and disillusioned over the appointment of a misfit like Dhammika Ranatunge as the chairman of Ports authority by his brother Arjuna Ranatunge the minister of Ports who all the time waxes eloquent against nepotism and what not.
The incident was captured by the camera of journalist Gunaratnam - vide infra
