(Lanka-e-News- 09.April.2016, 11.30PM) In order to expedite and streamline the projects in Sri Lanka (SL) out of the investments of China , a high powered three member committee shall be appointed , said , P.M. Ranil Wickremesinghe . The latter told this when he met with Xi Jinping the president and the Prime minister Li Keqiang of the People’s republic of China , according to a P.M.’s media unit release.
Minister of special projects Dr.Sarath Amunugama, Minister of development strategy and international trade Malik Samarawickrema , advisor to policy planning and economic development ministry R. Paskaralingam will be members of this committee , as notified by the P.M., the media unit of the P.M. informed.
It is worthy of note ,when foreign investments are coming in , it is the foreign ministry and finance ministry are most vital and those ministries play a most pivotal and central role in that direction, yet P.M. Ranil Wickremesinghe had not co ordinated with the ministries of Sarath Amunugama , Mangala Samaraweera or Malik Samaraweera, or the foreign ministry or finance ministry .Owing to these and other reasons, there were no investments or new projects launched since the new government was installed an year ago . It is therefore becoming increasingly evident that the foreign invstors of the world are not lured by the new methods and modes adopted by the P.M. Ranil Wickremesinghe to attract foreign investors ignoring the finance ministry and the foreign ministry.
When appointing the three member committee now with a view to expedite and streamline the projects of China , the finance and foreign ministers have not been enlisted.
At all events , when the Chinese delegates most warmly welcomed the SL delegation led by the P.M. at the prestigious People’s main hall last evening (08) , the Chinese president said, he is delighted that he got the opportunity to resume the Colombo Port project .
The SL government’s decision to make it a special financial and economic zone earned the pleasure and plaudit of Xi Jinping. The Chinese president while saying no third paty can dent or damage the close and cordial ties between China and SL , remarked , when the Chinese government is providing aid to SL , what matters is not which political party or person is the beneficiary but the criterion is the people of SL and the policies.
