(Lanka-e-News- 23.Nov.2014, 11.45PM) Within 100 days of his Presidential victory , he will abolish the executive Presidency , and if necessary even hold a referendum in that connection , the opposition common candidate Maithripala Sirisena declared, while adding that 100 days is more than enough for all that.
Following the Presidential election victory , the Parliament will function as a national government, and Ranil Wickremesinghe shall be the prime Minister, while the cabinet will comprise representatives of all parties to enable the introduction of a new constitution in order to abolish the executive Presidency . In case there are any snags to that , a people’s referendum will be held to abolish the executive Presidency , expenditure notwithstanding , and based on opinion of legal experts ,a period of 100 days is more than enough for all these , Maithri explained at length.
Maithri went on to elaborate, for that cabinet an individual who is now with Rajapakse today will be appointed , and after making it a national Parliament , the constitution shall be changed, Maithripala Sirisena said on the ‘Satana’ program yesterday, of the Sirasa TV channel.
The common candidate Maithripala Sirisena , Rajitha Senaratne who discarded the government yesterday , Ven. Athureliya Thera and Anura Dissanayake participated in this live ‘satana’ political program .
It is a matter for regret that about half an hour before this program was telecast , the Rajapakse regime took action to ban this program violating the fundamental rights of the participants, which was sponsored by Dialog TV and PEO TV. Much worse , in some areas , Anusha Pelpita of the Telecommunication regulatory commission , a lickspittle of the Rajapakse regime even went so far as to obstruct the Sirasa frequencies which enabled TV viewers to see the programs via use of antennas .
Maithri in his speech could not but expose the treacheries and atrocities of the Rajapakses : he said , the Rajapakses were so cruel and bestial that Mahinda Rajapakse advised to remove the name of Bandaranaikes at the commemoration ceremony of Bandaranaike who was the founder of the SLFP , and to replace with leaders of all the SLFP who are dead.
