Daya Master released on stringent bail conditions is remanded- unable to meet bail requirements

(Lanka-e-News -11.Aug.2016, 11.30PM)   Former LTTE media spokesman Velayutham Dayanidhi alias Daya Master against whom a case was filed in the Vavuniya High court under the Terrorism prevention Act (PTA) appeared  in court yesterday (10) , and was granted bail subject to stringent conditions by the High court judge Balendran Shivamehendran .However as he could not fulfill the bail requirements he was remanded .

The charges against him were  based on his statement made before the Colombo magistrate court earlier of aiding and abetting  terrorism , and detaining the ordinary civilians by the LTTE during the last phase of the war.

Lawyer  Anton Punidhanayagam who appeared on behalf of Daya Master revealed , the high court judge ordered that Daya Master be enlarged on a cash bail of Rs.  500,000.00 and with four government servants as sureties .

In addition the judge ordered that the suspect cannot go out of Northern  Province  , and he shall report to the Jaffna police headquarters every morning and sign there between 9.00 a.m and 12.00 noon , until the case is over.

Daya Master before he appeared in court told us , the case has been filed against him under the PTA .He also said , this case has been filed afresh  based on a statement made by him during the trial of a previous case in the Colombo District court .He being released on bail is most doubtful , he added.

Daya Master who arrived from Jaffna found it difficult to raise the money for the cash bail , as  well as to find four sureties (government servants)  suddenly. Hence  steps will be taken to get him released tomorrow , his lawyer stated.
