(Lanka-e-News -16.Aug.2016, 7.30PM) The mechanism introduced by the Sri Lanka government pertaining to the war crimes ; the attention paid to the constitutional amendment; and the measures taken to treat all races alike have been greatly appreciated by the American government , said the US ambassador to SL , Athul Preshap in Jaffna, yesterday evening(15) .
The American ambassador who arrived in Jaffna in connection with the conducting of a medical clinic at Idaiyukadu , Jaffna supported by American government aid met a large number of people and VIPs in Jaffna.
The American ambassador who visited the Northern Provincial Council (NPC) , met the chief minister , the chairman and ministers of the NPC . Later , the opposition leader of parliament cum TNA leader R. Sampanthan and politicos of Jaffna were also met by him.
Addressing the people of Jaffna , the American ambassador said , the measures taken to combat the issues proliferating while Sri Lankan politics is growing in strength is laudable. The contributions made by political parties towards this is appreciated and the efforts of the TNA are also welcome , the ambassador observed.
The ties between Sri Lankans and Americans has lasted for many years , and between the Americans and the people of Jaffna the relationship has existed for over 200 years , the US ambassador revealed. The US throughout this long history of relationship had continuously aided SL , and in the future too it is the aim of America to assist SL economically , in its politically , culturally and social affairs, the US ambassador pointed out.
Sadly however , the chairman of the NPC C.V. K. Sivagnanam said , The US ambassador’s tour of Jaffna served no useful purpose.
