(Lanka-e-News - 18.Aug.2016, 11.30PM) The letter appointing senior DIG M.R. Latheef as the commandant of the police STF was handed over by the IGP to Latheef this afternoon at about 1.00 . This move finally ended the controversial storm that was created by delays caused to the appointment of Latheef as the police STF commandant without implementing the express and explicit recommendation made by the independent Police commission to appoint Latheef to that post.
His appointment takes effect from 9 th August (given retrospective effect ) , and Latheef is due to take over duties on the 19 th (tomorrow) . The Police commission made its recommendation on the 4 th of August.
Might we recall that Lanka e news which always stand by truth and champions the cause of victims of injustice exposed the conspiracy hatched within the presidential secretariat to halt this appointment using dubious and devious methods. Truly speaking , it was a close relative of the president who was behind these conspiratorial moves. The reason for this was , the close relative of the president who is enjoying the patronage and protection of the chief of the country, and who is misusing those benefits is in fear that he would be deprived of those facilities and undue benefits in the future which he is illicitly plundering now, when a law abiding officer like Latheef takes over duties .
The present chief of the STF team who is providing presidential security who is no better had also been backbiting while adding fuel to the fire .
It is a pity this buffoon does not have even that little grey matter to understand that by attempting to grab one or two vehicles more it is the president –his own who will be driven into trouble. In any event we are informed because the president during the past several days was spending much time in the task of reformation of the SLFP , addressing this issue was delayed. The spineless and cowardly conduct of the IGP too had aggravated this issue , it is learnt.
Let it be clearly understood the masses for good governance will not approve of any attempts to foil the decision of the independent commission. Neither will they allow room for that. At any rate , in the end because the issue was resolved duly and sensibly , the pro good governance masses will no doubt thank the president and the IGP.
Currently the security to the VIPs is provided by the police STF. Therefore the chief of that force must compulsorily be one who is highly skilled in providing security to the VIPs. Latheef is the only internationally recognized officer in Sri Lanka in relation to providing security to the VIPs against terrorist attacks , curbing and controlling such attacks.
He is the only officer in Sri Lanka who had received training at the CIA of U.S.A. ; from the British Institution M 15 ; and from the Institution SAS of Great Britain. Latheef is the handpicked officer selected by the UN security division to provide security at international level when Holy Pope arrived in SL, and other international events like the Olympics games.
Lanka e news protested vehemently in favor of Latheef because the opportunity that was available to provide security to the VIPs by such an individual was going to be wasted. Besides , the protest was to ensure that the decisions of the independent commission shall not be baulked by the Executive in which case it can turn out to be a pernicious precedent and a most dangerous blow to Democracy in the future. The objective of Lanka e news was to nip that deadly trend in the bud.
There was also another reason why Lanka e news took up cudgels against the efforts to sabotage Latheef’s appointment. That is, because Latheef was an officer of integrity who did not kowtow to the illegal orders issued during the nefarious decade of the Rajapakses , he was brought under the guillotine of the regime. Latheef proved in deed he was a law abiding police officer of integrity and rectitude.
It was Latheef who arrested and remanded the politico of the district of Rajapakse who made police officers to kneel down. Owing to such bold actions of his in the discharge of his duties duly and diligently , he was hounded out by the Rajapakses in their vindictive agenda.
When it became known that Latheef the law abiding officer is going to be the STF chief , a number of vehicles of the STF that were kept back by the politicos for their purposes had been returned to the STF vehicle division . The STF higher ups who were engaged in looking after their private tea estates , coconut estates and hotels during their duty hours have returned to their places of work to resume official duties like ‘rats ‘ which were at play when the cat was away.
A law abiding officer like Latheef who is also extremely intelligent ,and proficient in all three languages is not only fit to be the STF commandant but is even suitable to hold the post of IGP of SL.

S DIG Latheef is from a ( Very) minority Community. There is only about 60.000 of us . in S/L. I'm Proud to be a Malay , , to which community SDIG Latheef belongs.
Only in Yahapalanaya this could happen. Seriously.
