(Lanka-e-News -23.Aug.2016, 7.00PM) Even as Bandula Gunawardena made the announcement on Sunday that he was resigning his post of SLFP organizer , Homagama , a senior party member Gamini Thilakasiri was appointed as the new organizer this noon by a letter of appointment signed by the president and party general secretary Duminda Dissanayake .
Thilakasiri is presently a member of the Western provincial council (WPC) .He was appointed on the votes of the people for the first time in 1991 as a member of the Kesbewa Provincial Council, and in 1993 he was elected as a member of the provincial council. He had since that time been an undefeated member of the PC for the last 23 years . Previously he had been the Homagama electorate organizer.
Meanwhile, State minister of Finance Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena was appointed as the Matara district leader by the president replacing Dallas Alahaperuma following the latter’s vain brags and empty boasts .
These two appointments made by the president on his initiative with the consensus of the SLFP Central Committee are a dire warning to other politicos engaging in backstreet politics resorting to hole and corner political manipulations while being within the SLFP party to its detriment , according to the opinion of political analysts.
However it is also the considered opinion of political analysts that without thoroughly and decisively purging the SLFP party of the murderers who committed murders throughout the Rajapakse nefarious decade , the rogues of the Rajapakse Blue brigand , rapists, heroin peddlers and extremist maniacs who are abounding within the party , it would be difficult for the SLFP to come to power again , good governance notwithstanding . Simultaneously with the purge , a new socio-democratic political dimension should be created by the party , the analysts added.
