(Lanka-e-News -31.Aug.2016, 7.00PM) Following an invitation extended by the Government , UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and his wife Ban Soon Taek arrived in Sri Lanka today (2016-08-31) on a two day tour . It is significant to note this is Ban Ki Moon’s second visit to Sri Lanka.
While he is in SL , he will be meeting with president Maithripala Sirisena , Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe , Foreign affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera , speaker Karu Jayasuriya, political party leaders , MPs, and State officials , according to a communiqué issued by UN office in SL.
The UN Secretary General will be participating in the youth program at Galle on 1 st September under the theme ‘Youth base to build reconciliation and co existence’
This conference is organized by the National Youth service council , National policy and economic affairs ministry , Office for national unity and reconciliation ,National harmony and reconciliation bureau and SL office of the United Nations. In this connection the support of 100 youths across the country who will be active participants have been made available in regard to the programs and projects pertaining to peace , reconciliation and co existence . Those are :
1. Arts and culture
2. Education
3. Language and identity
4. Mutual trust
5. Media and communication
6. Woman and male-female genders
7. Sports
8. Livelihood andsocio psychological assistance
Under these 8 topics , their views will be expressed and activities demonstrated aimed at building reconciliation and co existence .
The Secretary General will be attending a youth session of questions and answers .
On this occasion the Secretary General will be met by the Governor of the South Hemakumara Nanayakkara, chief minister Shan Wijayalal De Silva, Galle district secretary S.T. Kodikara, president of the youth service council Eranda Weliyange , Director General of the office for national unity and reconciliation Chandrasena Maliyeddha .
Ban Ki Moon who will embark on a tour of Jaffna on 2 nd September will visit an area of re settlement for an inspection
After the tour of Jaffna , the UN Secretary General is scheduled to meet with foreign affairs minister Mangala Samaraweera , speaker of parliament Karu Jayasuriya, several Cabinet Ministers , political party leaders and civil society representatives.
At the invitation extended by the president and Board of Directors of Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKIIRSS) , Colombo ,the UN Secretary General will address a public function on the 2nd of September on ‘Fulfillment of permanent development goals through achievement of permanent peace’ while focusing on the 16 th principle of the UN charter in this connection.
In the final lap of his tour , the Secretary General will address a media briefing on the 2nd of September organized by the UN office .

One among the many reasons is to pass it immediately to the police if by any chance there is a pick-pocketing accusation during this period .
