Sinhalese students must learn Tamil and vice versa compulsorily in North and East - Wigneswaran

(Lanka-e-News -15.Nov.2016, 11.55PM) A bill shall be  tabled in the northern provincial council to make learning Sinhala for Tamil students , and  Tamil  for Sinhalese students compulsory , said  the Chief minister of the North, C.V. Wigneswaran.

Wigneswaran made this announcement when he attended a presentation ceremony at Nallur Hindu College on the 14 th.

Since Sinhala and Tamil are official  languages , the Sinhalese government servants shall be taught Tamil , and Tamil Governments servants shall be taught Sinhala   compulsorily in the North and East , and laws shall be introduced to give  effect to this through the provincial council , the chief minister observed.

The chief minister pointed out , knowledge of both Sinhala and Tamil languages will conduce to reconciliation , and to  acquire high positions when seeking employment and this will  make easy within the country.

Students in Sri Lanka are abandoning the languages used within the country , and many are  evincing interest in the learning of foreign languages like French , Russian etc.  Because of the lack of knowledge of the languages in use within the country , there are misgivings and doubts between  Sinhalese and Tamils , he pinpointed.
