(Lanka-e-News-09.Dec.2014, 11.55PM) With the crossover of SLFP general secretary Maithripala Sirisena to the common opposition, the Rajapakses in order to avenge this , ‘purchased’ general secretary (former) of the UNP , Tissa Attanayake possessed of inordinate venal propensities , to achieve their tooth for tooth revenge. But even before a few hours have elapsed , a precious eye of the Rajapakse regime was taken out, when Hirunika Premachandra a government member who polled the highest preferential votes in Colombo district addressed a media briefing to announce with glee that she was extending her support to Maithri, causing great dismay and disappointment to the Rajapakses.
In addition , Chandrani Bandara who was rumored to cross over with Tissa speaking at the same media briefing held at the opposition leader’s office told in no uncertain terms that she will not ever defect to the government.
Hirunika arrived for the media briefing with former President Chandrika Bandaranike Kumaranatunge . The latter told the gathering that she came for the meeting to provide security to Hirunika. Nanda Gunaratne the sister of late Bharatha Lakshman living in Canada also attended the briefing with Hirunika.
Mangala Samaraweera M.P. and Rosie Senanayake M.P. also participated in the media conference.
Hirunika addressing the media spoke thus :
If my father who was the Presidential advisor can meet with such a fate , what security can the innocent public expect ? It is three years since my father was assassinated, but still punishment has not been duly meted out.In the government there are many others who are disillusioned and disgusted. A high profile individual of the party was told , ‘it is alright if you go. You have no vote base.’ There is no plan to keep back those who are leaving the party.
The former President was questioned by a journalist thus : ‘recently , the President revealed , this contest is between him and Chandrika.’
Chandrika replying said , ‘this is Hirunika’s opportunity not mine. I came here on account of Hirunika’s security, because today , she is facing threats from the government’s high rankers. Now , the government is gripped by Chandrika and Bandaranaike fear psychoses . When the name of Bandaranaike is mentioned now they are provoked . Nothing can be done about that.’
