(Lanka-e-News -29.Dec.2016, 10.30AM) Parliamentarians paid their last respects in the parliament to the remains of late Rathnasiri Wickremenayake , a former prime minister of Sri Lanka .Specially the speaker , the leader of the opposition , and a large number of parliamentarians were among the crowds present to pay their respects. Kurunegala M.P. Mahinda Rajapakse too was present .
Meanwhile 31 st December , the day of the final journey of the Late P.M. was declared a day of national mourning. However at the request of Vidura Wickremenayake and family members , this had to be changed.
It was decided last evening (28th) that the final funeral rites be held with state honors without declaring it a day of national mourning because 31 st is the last day of the year , and that could obstruct the year end festivities and traditional celebrations of other races.
Accordingly the final funeral ceremonies are to be held with state honors at Horana cemetery on the 31st
